Another Form of Violence

I want to take a moment to shed light on another often marginalized form of preventable violence in today’s society: sexual assault. This blog offers highly compelling insight on the subject of rape and sexual violence that is ever-present in today’s society, and like gun violence, it discusses how prevention often starts with education and destigmatization of people who have been sexually assaulted, or those with mental health issues (for gun violence). This post in particular discusses what we want to teach to future generations about sexual assault and rape, as it is often an unspoken topic, considered too crude or too raw to be an open conversation. However, like gun violence, these topics will have to start to become dinner-table conversations if we hope to mitigate the consequences of lack of education and decrease their occurrence collectively.
