Lock, Lights, Out of Sight

The title of this post, while cheesy could very well save lives. Its three simple parts: lock the doors, turn off the lights, and get out of sight are the basis for many school and public buildings’ lockdown procedures. Lockdowns are emergency procedures reserved for the presence of an intruder who has already entered the building, and are often not taken as seriously as they should be, as seen in the video linked below.

The video, from Shonda Rhimes Grey’s Anatomy depicts a famous episode where a grieving husband turns into an active shooter in the hospital, showing that this could and has happened anytime and anywhere. The video begins with the two main characters in the video, Lexi and Mark, discussing if the hospital’s call to lockdown should be taken seriously or not. Less than ten seconds later it becomes apparent that this is no drill, calling attention to the fact that all lockdown procedures should be taken very seriously, as they may very well save your life and the lives of others.
